Irwin Ripple Tank

This Ripple Tank System is the result of a significant design project where every facet of the ripple tank was evaluated with a view to providing teachers with a superb system for teaching wave phenomenon, quick and easy to set up and at a competitive price. The major component of the system is the tank itself. This is a one-piece injection moulding which incorporates the unique wave dispersion feature to prevent back reflection which interferes with the propagation of waves which can occur on other tanks. The beach has offset conical shaped bollards, the bollards disperse the energy of the waves produced by the rippler mechanism and therefore substantially reduces interference. The adjustment for all movable components is affected via an innovative ‘friction grip’ design which eases adjustment and provides greater accuracy. The remote rippler controller is handheld, this eases the motor speed adjustment by allowing the operator to view the wave patterns whilst adjusting the speed.

The ripple tank system can be upgraded to the advanced model by incorporating a light and strobe unit and an advanced motor controller. See SO180324.
The complete system is housed in a flat box, designed to fit into a laboratory drawer for safe storage. The vacuum formed base of the box allows for speedy checking that all components have been returned at the end of the lesson.
