Future of D&T and the impact of learning environments!
Posted in: Blogs Top Tips

As experts in designing and installing 21st Century learning environments, we are privileged to have the opportunity to regularly work with Design and Technology and STEM educators across the globe.

Our mission is to ensure schools and colleges are equipped with futureproofed learning spaces that can support the evolution of D&T education and can equally support the development of industry-related skills needed for existing, emerging and jobs which don't yet exist!

We recently had the pleasure of working with the Co-op Academy Trust and St Margaret's School to completely transform their Design and Technology spaces. During our post-installation visits, we were delighted to engage in meaningful discussions about the profound influence of the learning environment, the dynamic evolution of teaching and studying Design and Technology, and the contemporary challenges they face today.

Co-op Academy Trust

Matt Evans, our Innovation Specialist interviewed Drew Wicken, Director of Design & Technology and Vocational Education for The Co-op Academy Trust.

We asked Drew…

-  How much of an impact do you think the student learning environment has on their learning outcomes?

-  What are your thoughts on the evolution of Design and Technology as a subject within the UK?

-  Given your role across the Trust do you think there are links between what happens in school, local industry, and the local environment?

We were also delighted to speak with Mr Richardson, Head Teacher at Co-op Academy, Stoke-on-Trent to gauge his thoughts on the impact of learning environments and the evolution and future of D&T for his school.

We asked Mr Richardson…

-  How much of an impact do you think the student learning environment has on their learning outcomes?

-  Can you share with us your vision for learning spaces and what your plans might be for the future?

-  How important is it to you to have learning spaces that can easily evolve into the future?

St Margaret's School

Whilst visiting St Margaret's Schools we were delighted to talk to the schools Head of Design & Technology, Sima Bhudia to gauge her thoughts on the continuous evolution of Design and Technology.

At WF Education, we are committed to supporting educational outcomes and understanding the vital role the learning environment plays in shaping student success. Our insightful conversations with valued customers continue to highlight the profound impact that the physical space has on fostering student achievements and enhancing learning outcomes.

The recurrent theme for schools is to create futureproofed, flexible spaces to support interdisciplinary teaching and learning, coupled with a need to work with industry to develop real-world skills and experience. The evolution of learning spaces and the subject of D&T is the foundation of our product development work, and we will continue to work alongside educators to develop and produce solutions that help support Design and Technology education spaces into the future.
