AQA RP6: Aseptic Techniques

Abstract:

Use of aseptic techniques to investigate the effect of antimicrobial substances on microbial growth.

Hints & Tips:

- 1% Virkon solution is particularly effective for swabbing benches before and after practical work.

- Advise students not to seal the lid all the way around as this creates anaerobic conditions.

- If you are using the penicillin discs note that the 'tablet' in the blister pack is a dessicant and should not be used in the experiment.
