Hints & Tips:
- Advise students not to seal the lid all the way around as this creates anaerobic conditions.
- The activity suggests using filter paper discs soaked in different antiseptics, ready prepared antibiotic discs are also available. If making your own, holes can be cut with a hole punch.
- A number of different agars are available for the growthof bacteria. Nutrient agar is a good start but LB agar is a suitable alternative.
- Do not incubate bacteria above 30°C (to prevent growth of any pathogens harmful to humans).
