Abstract:
Testing for biological molecules - Glucose (benedicts test).
Hints & Tips:
- You need the qualitative benedicts solution for this practical.
- Glucose will show a positive test after being in the water bath (80-100°C) as it is a reducing sugar.
- Sucrose is a non-reducing sugar and will not change colour in the water bath.
- Hydrochloric acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, and protein are all negative for reducing sugars.
