OCR PAG 6.3: Chromatography - TLC to Separate Photosynthesis Pigments

Abstract:

Investigation using thin layer chromatography to separate photosynthetic pigments.

Hints & Tips:

- Leaves from spinach, grass, geranium, or copper beech work well.

- The chromatography plate should be held by its edges and can be cut in half to save money, however, there is a danger of some of the silica coming off when you cut it.

- You can heat and draw out glass melting point tubes to a fine tip in a bunsen to use as spotting tips.
