Abstract:
Factors affecting the rate of water uptake in plants: investigating transpiration using a potometer.
Hints & Tips:
- Cut the stem under the level of the liquid at an angle, this is important as it stops airlocks from forming.
- Make sure all joins and seals are watertight, using petroleum jelly around any joins, especially where the plant stem joins the potometer.
- Cuttings should be at least 15 - 20 cm long with a stem diameter of approx 5 mm.
- Place your cuttings into a bucket of water immediately upon being cut.
