WJEC5: Factors Affecting Transpiration
Abstract:
Using a potometer to measure the movement of an air bubble due to transpiration.
Hints & Tips:
- Place your cuttings into a bucket of water immediately upon being cut. Cut the stem under the level of the liquid at an angle, this is important as it stops airlock from forming.
- Cuttings should be at least 15 - 20 cm long with a stem diameter of approx 5 mm.
- Sycamore, beech, or maple are recommended for the woody shoots. Use leaves that do not have thick or waxy cuticles.
