- If studying anything other than light levels, you will need the appropriate measuring equipment.

- You can use a marked tape measure or rope marked at 1 m intervals.

- Do not throw quadrats, as this can be dangerous. Use a random number generator to decide coordinates and then place the quadrat in the designated place. You will need to pre-grid the area under test to designate coordinates. Do this ahead of time.
